About Balinese Paon Cooking Class

On a bright early morning, you are in Bali at Ubud’s famous local market grocery shopping for chilli peppers, candlenuts and lime leaves for your next meal that you are going to prepare. On your way back, you’ll walk through Ubud’s famous rice paddies to reach  the Laplapan village where your host, Puspa will welcome you to their traditional family home, where you will cook a Balinese lunch amongst a group of friends in a traditional kitchen garden, using time honored ingredients and skills.
‘Paon’ itself means ‘kitchen’ in Indonesian, signifying a traditional cooking experience. Here you’ll spend an entire day with a professional chef and host, Puspa and the other participants  as you all cook  several delicious Indonesian and Balinese meals together and share a feast of your own making amongst each other and dine like a family. You will learn how to make famous dishes like Gado-Gado and Satay, as you work together in the  kitchen chatting with the other chefs and local farmers. Before the day ends, you can visit the local Laplapan village temple, as it is one of Bali's oldest and most revered temple, exploring the meaningful connections between the island's culinary traditions and its cultural and historical heritage.
