About Palau Güell Ticket
The palace of Eusebi Güell was created by Antoni Gaudí from 1886 until 1890. It resembles the house of a medieval ruling family much more than a modernist building — Gaudí wanted to reflect the measured, majestic personality of Eusebi Güell. The commission gave the young Gaudí — already working on Casa Vicens but not yet the global name he would become — virtually unlimited resources and the freedom to create a private palace for the most powerful patron in Barcelona. The result is a building of extraordinary ambition: parabolic arches throughout, a three-storey stable in the basement where carriages could enter directly from the street so that departing guests never had to stand in the road, lavishly decorated rooms on the noble floors with every surface designed by Gaudí including the furniture and the ironwork, and a central hall whose soaring dome pierced with round skylights creates the most spectacular internal space in any building he designed before the Sagrada Família.
Located next to Las Ramblas, the Palau Güell was designed according to the private and social needs of the Güell-López family, becoming a pioneering model of Modernist residential architecture. Its design combines noble materials, advanced solutions for its time, and a careful spatial experience that make it unique within Barcelona's heritage. The rooftop is the building's most exuberant and most prophetic moment — where the building's Gaudí-ness becomes most evident: note the colorful chimneys with their ornate mosaics — the first full expression of the trencadís mosaic chimney concept that would reach its ultimate form in Casa Milà's Garden of Warriors two decades later. The Palau Güell is an extravagant mansion packed with magic and imagination — the visit is truly surprising and refreshing and a definite must for any Gaudí itinerary in Barcelona. Insiders' Tips
Palau Güell is less well-known compared to other Gaudí locations in Barcelona like Park Güell and Casa Milà — making it one of the most peaceful and most rewarding Gaudí experiences in the city, particularly for visitors who want to avoid the large crowds at the more famous addresses. Visit the basement stables first before ascending to the noble floors — the extraordinary engineering of the vaulted mushroom columns below ground is the most surprising and least anticipated highlight of the entire building.
