About Koishikawa Korakuen Garden Ticket
The garden is a kaiyū-shiki tsukiyama sensui teien — a classic strolling garden with artificial hills and a central pond — where visitors follow a winding path that progressively reveals a sequence of carefully composed views, each evoking a different famous landscape from Japan or China. The heart of the garden is the Daisensui pond, representing Lake Biwa and the sea in the garden's overall cosmological scheme, with Horai Island at its centre and the Engetsu-kyo Full Moon Bridge arching gracefully over the water in one of the most serene and perfectly proportioned garden compositions in all of Tokyo. Around the pond, the path passes through a plum grove, a rice paddy, a bamboo grove, an iris field, and a hill representing China's sacred Mt. Lushan — each element a precisely placed piece in the garden's philosophical landscape puzzle.
The seasonal beauty of Koishikawa Korakuen is extraordinary year-round — the plum grove blooms from mid-February through March, the weeping cherry trees near the west entrance open in late March, the iris fields come into full colour in June, lotus flowers cover the pond in July, and the garden's dozens of Japanese maple trees transform into an astonishing tableau of orange and red from late November through December. The recently restored Karamon Gate — the historic official gateway to the former Korakuen, destroyed during wartime and faithfully rebuilt in 2020 — now stands as one of the most striking new-old additions to the garden. The entire complex covers approximately 7 hectares and can be explored at a comfortable pace in 60 to 90 minutes. Book your Koishikawa Korakuen Garden ticket now on Thrillark.

Insiders' Tips
Visit at opening time at 9:00 AM on a weekday for the most peaceful and atmospheric experience — the garden is at its most tranquil in the first hour before tour groups and school visits arrive. The plum grove in late February is one of the most underrated blossom experiences in Tokyo — significantly quieter than the famous cherry blossom sites, and the fragrance is extraordinary on a still morning. Bring a tripod or camera with manual focus for the Engetsu-kyo bridge reflection.
