About Taronga Zoo Tickets

Located on the shores of Sydney Harbour in Mosman, just 12 minutes by ferry from Circular Quay, Taronga Zoo Sydney has been Australia's most iconic zoo since opening in 1916. Today it is home to over 5,000 animals from 350+ species across 28 hectares of bushland, with Sydney's spectacular skyline as its permanent backdrop.

Wildlife from Australia and beyond: Taronga is renowned for its Australian wildlife — come face-to-face with koalas, red kangaroos, tree kangaroos, platypus, echidnas, wombats, emus and dingoes. Beyond the Australian icons, explore the wild world with Sumatran tigers in the dramatic Tiger Trek, western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, snow leopards, meerkats, giraffes on the African Savannah, and sea lions on the harbour foreshore.

New in 2025 — the Rhino Reserve: Following the departure of Taronga's beloved Asian elephants to Monarto Safari Park in April 2025 (where they joined a new larger herd), the former elephant enclosure has been transformed into the spectacular Rhino Reserve — now home to Hari, a young Greater One-horned Rhinoceros, and three Asian Water Buffalo. Hari is one of just three Greater One-horned Rhinos in Australia, making this a genuinely rare encounter. The new exhibit opened in December 2025.

Free shows and keeper talks: Every ticket includes access to the daily Seals for the Wild presentation (11 AM and 2 PM), the legendary Free-Flight Bird Show, and 15+ keeper talks throughout the day covering everything from reptiles to chimpanzees. The zoo also offers premium paid experiences including animal encounters, Wild Ropes treetop adventures, and overnight glamping at Roar & Snore.

Getting around the zoo: Please note: The original Sky Safari cable car was retired in January 2023 and is currently not operating. A new $77 million Sky Safari cable car is under construction and expected to reopen in 2027–2028. In the meantime, visitors can use the new Taronga Wildlife Express electric train (AUD $5 one-way) which travels through the heart of the zoo between the lower ferry wharf and the upper entrance. Shuttle buses also operate during peak periods.
